S2E8 Philip Tete : Founder – Lip Visual Studios

Philip n. Tete is an African born and raised entrepreneur currently living and doing business in the United States. He is a visual content creator and marketer, a business strategist, owner of Lip Visual Studios and he calls himself, the world’s first African high ticket closer. Philip was born and raised in Bamenda, Cameroon to lower middle class family of 7. He started his Entrepreneurial ventures at the age of 8 and at 16, he started a movie production agency “Grass
to Grace Entertainment” with his friend. They quickly got regional recognition as their skits were picked by a few TV stations. Philip was in the middle of making his first feature film when he moved to the States to join his family in 2011. In 2013, he started school at P.G Community College Studying business administration. He later transferred to UMBC majoring in Cinematic Arts and Minor in entrepreneurship. With just 1 more year to graduate, Philip dropped out of school and started Lip Visual Studios. Philip also created nduttu.com, a site for Cameroon music streaming. He has tried and failed in network marketing, stock trading and affiliate marketing. As an entrepreneur, he is constantly reinventing himself and trying new things.

Like Batman, Christopher Ategeka witnessed the death of both his parents as a child. He grew up with immense hardships but managed to navigate – an experience that left him equipped with valuable life skills. The talent he now uses to tackle the worlds toughest problems.

He is a serial entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, an engineer and a pioneer in the unintended consequences of technologies (“UCOT”) movement. He is the founder and Managing Director at LyfBase, the world’s first center for the unintended consequences of technology. Ategeka coined and popularized the term “UCOT” (unintended consequences of technology) in the tech sector and the concept of “UCOT” evangelism. Before that, he founded Health Access Corps, a non-profit that works to establish sustainable health care systems on the African continent. Before that, he founded Hourglass ventures a fund that supports visionary entrepreneurs who come from an underpriviledged background-who need a Friends and Family round financing. He has been invited to speak at the Clinton Global Initiative and United Nations, and he’s won many international awards for his work; he was named a 2016 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and a 2017 TED Fellow. His work has been featured in many major media publications both locally and internationally such as BBC, Forbes, and NPR. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science, and Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Jide Alakija is an internationally renowned photographer with over 10 years’ experience in shooting multicultural weddings, documentaries and editorial campaigns. Alakija’s assignments have taken him across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the U.S.

Regularly piquing the interest of international icons and A-list celebrities through his captivating eye, Alakija’s recent clients include Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka; hip hop artist and producer, J.Cole; acclaimed novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie; and Didier Drogba, former Chelsea F.C. soccer player.

Art collectors and galleries around the world currently showcase Alakija’s work. Most recently, the Smithsonian Institute shortlisted ‘Invisible Cities No. 1’ for inclusion in the Smithsonian Institute Collection. His highly coveted ‘Normal Lies’ piece, depicting two young children sneakily covering their eyes in a slum in Lagos, Nigeria was purchased by international soccer legend, Sol Campbell for an undisclosed fee.

Keen to share his extensive expertise with the next generation, Alakija hosts photography workshops around the world and runs various mentoring programs in West Africa for underprivileged photography students.

Passionate about African modern art, Alakija is the co-owner of TAFETA, a private art dealership specializing in 20th century and contemporary African art. Based in London, the gallery regularly showcases at some of the word’s premier art events including Art Basel, The Hamptons Art Fair and Frieze London Art Fair; and represents renowned names like Yinka Shonibare, MBE on the African continent.

Alakija cites the work of legendary photographers, Sebastião Salgado and Steve McCurry, known for capturing stories in black and white and color respectably, as his biggest inspirations.

He holds an undergraduate and master’s degree in Engineering from Imperial College, London, England. Alakija resides in Brooklyn, New York

S2E1: Consolee Nishimwe – Author and Motivational Speaker

Consolee Nishimwe is an Author, a Motivational Speaker and a survivor of the 1994 genocide against the
Tutsi in Rwanda. She suffered physical and emotional torture during her three months in hiding and
miraculously survived with her mother and younger sister.
Today, Consolee is a committed speaker on the genocide, a defender of women rights and an advocate
for other genocide survivors.
